The Rico Community Church began as “The People’s Church” in 1891. More than 120 years later, it continues as a true community church, welcoming everyone, regardless of religious background denomination, age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or political persuasion.
Worship is held at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday, with rare exceptions for winter weather. Evening services are scheduled for Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and other occasions. Our praise team performs both traditional and contemporary Christian music. Members and friends also meet for Bible and book study.
The congregation holds frequent activities for the community’s children, including Vacation Bible School every summer. Fellowship gatherings are held frequently during the summer.
The Rico Community Church is active in mission and outreach, maintaining a food bank for the community and supporting other mission activities locally and globally.
Check the calendar for up-to-date information.
A fellowship of the Presbytery of Western Colorado (PCUSA), the church has been pastored since the autumn 2009 by Suzy Meyer, a commissioned ruling elder. She and her husband Marc have been married for more than 30 years. They have two grown children. A “tentmaker” (like the Apostle Paul) who earns much of her living in another profession, Pastor Suzy is a newspaper publisher in Cortez during the week. She can be contacted at all times by phone at (970) 560-1407 or by e-mail at ricocommunitychurch(at)gmail(dot)com.
