History & Archives
Built in
1891, on land donated by Lewis Franklin Hill, the church thrived
for many years until about 1917, when attendance and records
slowly dwindled away. It was not until 1944 that the current
Presbytery church was formed in the vacant building. The church
thrived until 1957, when most mines failed. It continued until the
late 1970's and then was moribund once again, until a restoration
project was begun in the late 1980s. Since then, the manse has
been rebuilt and the church restored to the place where both
structures are a credit to the community and are frequently
photographed by summer tourists and church visitors.
The Rico
Community Church operated primarily as a summer ministry, with
occasional services in other months, until November 2004, when
Rev. Carol Burgeson opened the church year round. Carol served the
church until early 2007. We now welcome our new pastor, Dr.
Beverly Leonard who will continue year round services for the next
two years.
